I don’t write to adhere to literary convention, to entertain or to evoke. I write so my mind is freed from the burden of having to think the thoughts that I place on paper. So I’ve always had this theory that instead of bands trying to write songs (or “hits”) that EVERYONE will like, they should be writing songs that THEY like, and then going out to find everyone that likes their songs too.
